The Castle of St. George was a must-see–not only because it bears the name of my brother, but because it was supposed to have amazing views of the city. I hiked across town, begrudgingly paid the 8 Euro entrance fee, and when I entered, I didn’t regret it at all. The views were absolutely stunning.
A brief history lesson. The castle was built by the Moors in the 11th century and became a royal palace for the Portugese kings and queens from the 13th to 17th centuries.
I don’t really care much about castles or forts, but the scenery was just so beautiful.
Orange trees are abundant in Portugal.
Definitely a must-see if you plan to visit Lisbon!
The view from the top (the bridge in the background is based on the Golden Gate bridge and the monument to the left of my head is Christ the King, inspired by Brazil’s Christ the Redeemer)
I love the Moorish art and architecture in southern Spain. This looks just like that. Imagine their being in that part of Europe.
I assume it’s very similar. The towns here really remind me of Italy and even a bit of Greece too.
