I got up today and headed down the street to the Stadel museum – it’s one of the best in Germany, and in celebration of its 200th birthday, admission was free today! A Monet exhibit just opened and I’ve been waiting to see it.
So I skipped down the street, ready for my fill of impressionism, only to see a line wrapping around the block. Who knew Germans liked free museum days so much??
My theory is everyone’s sick of winter and just wants to get out and do things. I haven’t reported much (maybe I was too focused on Portugal), but the sun has been out and the temps have been rising. Last weekend there must have been a million people down by the river.
I passed an ice cream shop and the line was also wrapped around the block (to put it in perspective, I think it was around 50…so no one’s really dying of heat exhaustion here).
So, no Monet for me this weekend. But, a close second is the Turkish olive oil I finally found at the market. Think I’d let a weekend go by without a new quest? After harrassing the milk vendor to see if their milk was raw (it wasn’t), I continued on my way to track down some olive oil from Turkey.
If you hadn’t heard, Italy and Spain have been using olives from Turkey for years in their olive oil. Apparently olive oil from Turkey is much more pure and real than other olive oils. And with the huge Turkish population in Frankfurt, I knew I’d be able to find some.
I came across a new Turkish stand at the market, and the food looked so good and fresh…I can’t wait to try it.
So I picked up a bottle and it is delicious. Savoring olive oil brings me such joy. It truly is one of those rich foods I appreciate so much when I eat. I just envision I’m drinking the fountain of youth.
Plus I loved the little story on the label:
We have a garden in Ayvalik, cleanest and greenest!
It’s early October and the sun is still bright all over.
It’s when the olives are most precious and their oil is most delicious!
