Probably the worst picture ever…but it’s a string of police cars along the river.
This morning, I got up early to go for a peaceful run along the river. Because of the mild temperatures, this was my first run outside in months. I was enjoying a podcast, which is normally a feat when I’m commuting surrounded by outside noise.
So I’m listening to my podcast and getting inspired by the birds chirping, when I hear sirens. And I’m all, “$%&/(ยง! I can’t even enjoy a podcast in peace and quiet at the river at 5:30am!”
Then I remember…blockupy. (which, when I read it in my mind, I pronounce it block-uppy, because of how it’s written. I think block-u-py would have been a more effective way to spell it).
The new European Central Bank was set to open today, and with it, were planned Blockupy protests.
As soon as this dawned on me, I noticed just how many police cars were speeding down the other side of the river. Police on motorcycles pulled up alongside me, and by the time I was home, I could hear helicopters hovering above.
I’ve been following the news throughout the day and it looks like there’s a lot of fires, tear gas and vandalism to police cars.
I heard the subway service was stopped, so that might make for an interesting journey home this afternoon…
