A charming apartment

In between market shopping and festivals, I checked out 3 more apartments yesterday. I wasn’t interested in two of them (one was another 5th floor no lift and I know I would break my leg the day after I moved in).

The second apartment has piqued my interest. It’s at the top of my budget (isn’t that how it always goes), but it is in a perfect location, in a very charming old building that is newly renovated inside. The biggest pro is the location. Another pro is the bathroom, a place where I spend a lot of time. And I could definitely see myself taking many Epsom salt baths in that tub. One of the biggest cons is the small kitchen, because that’s another place where I spend a lot of time. But I could see myself making muffins on Sunday morning in front of those big, bright windows.

As I do for every big decision, I made a pro/con list:

Pros: location, great bathroom, bright, great windows and floors, high ceilings, shared garden patio
Cons: price, small kitchen, little storage space, would need to buy: washer/dryer, wardrobe, light fixtures, curtains

There is a staircase down to the basement where there’s an extra room that I have absolutely no furniture for or need for, but it could be nice to have that space when visitors come or potentially for a roommate to help with rent. I mentioned the extra room to a friend and she said she knew a girl who just broke up with her boyfriend and needed a place to live. That got me thinking that I could open a halfway house for people going through breakups. We could drink tea, talk about Buddha and man hate.

What do you think?

  • Beautiful. It looks so “you”.
First floor? How about the living area?
Building neighbors? Could you be friends with he/she who has the deck above?
    What’s tge street address?

  • Alissa! Greetings from Utrecht. Firstly, the halfway house sounds *perfect*. Secondly, please take this place. It’s gorgeous, and I want to visit you there on our next go-around. xo

  • Greetings from Johns Island. Can halfway guests include married woman, AKA mother, who has no beef but wants to visit her daughter to help with decorating?

  • DO IT!
i don’t know how much out of the budget it is, but i love all the natural light. plus the bathroom is HUGE.

could use the extra space for a personal gym? those hardwood floors are perfect for that dance studio that you always wanted 🙂
