Finally…the Kronberg Erdbeeren Festival story!
On the Sunday dad was here, I decided we should check out the town of Kronberg. It’s a short 20 min train ride north of Frankfurt, so it was easy. It’s in the Taunus, Frankfurt’s “mountains”, and I had always heard good things about the area. After all, it’s where the kings used to live, and it’s one of the wealthiest areas in Frankfurt.
We got off the train and just wandered around, heading in the direction of where we thought the town was. We were so surprised when we were greeted by this quaint, idyllic, typical German town.
Immediately, I suspected something was different. There were tents set up and shopkeepers were opening their doors. Let me remind you: it was a Sunday, a day when even the quietest of towns get quieter.
I suspected a festival, and it was confirmed when we saw the signs. The Erdbeeren festival! A festival to celebrate strawberries! Vendors were selling homemade strawberry baked goods, strawberry champagne, and strawberry jam.
We went on a short hike through the Taunus, which supposedly has “healing air”. We needed to earn our strawberry treats.
I settled on some strawberry champagne and a strawberry shortcake.
It was such an unexpected, sunny, strawberry-filled spiritSunday and I couldn’t think of a better person to spend it with!
