Hotel Kompass

On our second to last day, after spending the previous night at Club Revelin, we decided to sleep in, stay local and try our luck at the newly opened Hotel Kompass across the street.

Hotel Kompass had just opened the day before, and we desperately wanted to use their pool instead of our usual routine of scouting out a perfect rock to lie on next to the locals.

The first rule of using a hotel pool: jump the fence and act like you’re a guest.

Since we’re no longer in our teens, we decided to start at the second rule of using a hotel pool: ask politely if you can use their brand new facility.

Me (politely): “Hello, we were wondering if we could use your pool for the day.”

Kristen: “Can we buy a day pass?”

Third rule: Never offer to pay!

I shot her a look (that only I can give) and “handled” the request from there.

The hotel manager gave in and agreed, although he added, “Just buy a drink or something.”

We felt like we had hit the jackpot! We were giddy to have chairs and an infinity pool and beach towels! And relaxing music and friendly staff to cater to our every wish! In fact, we even got massages (I’d say that’s better than buying a drink!).

“Do you think this is the first time this towel has been used?”

“Do you think we could charge drinks to a fake hotel room?”

When asked what our room number was, Kristen replied, “Oh we’re guests of the hotel for the day.” (I’d say she got the hang of things).

Our relaxing day at Hotel Kompass was followed by our usual afternoon ritual of wine and popcorn on our apartment balcony, with a view we had appreciated every day of our trip.
