Italy week continues!
We decided to take a bus into Tuscany, stopping at wineries on the way to Siena. The hidden gem of the trip was the town of Monteriggioni. We arrived right at sunset and the fields of grapes and olives were an unreal palette of blues and purples.
The sleepy town is probably regularly passed by by those on their way to the more touristy Florence or Siena. But I loved it. Maybe it was because it reminded me of the small town Cagli that I lived in for 2 months. This, to me, is the real Italy–towns frozen in time with people that still spend their days at a relaxed, carefree pace.
I hated that it was merely a stop on a tour. It deserved so much more of our time and attention. I took note of the hotel off the piazza, and would love to return one day for a sleepy weekend of my own.
