2016: Sharing

My 2015 focus was on balance.

I assessed the balance in my life every month, checked in with myself throughout the year, and by the end, I learned what balance is for me.

By bringing my thoughts back to this intention, I was able to identify when I felt out of balance and what had caused it to occur.

To me, balance is achieved this way. By simply recognizing balance vs. imbalance.

It’s the ebb and flow of life.

I’m really proud of how I set one focus, stuck to it throughout the year, and learned from it.

I want to attempt to do the same this year.

In 2016, my focus, and intention will be on sharing.

Why?

2015 was very self-centered. And that’s ok.

But, I became more introverted, quiet, and a commuter who goes from work to home without acknowledging others.

And I realized when I evaluated each month, the things I wanted to work on involved interactions with the community in some way.

So in 2016 I want to share.

For me, mindfulness and present moment awareness are closely linked to this idea of sharing.

I was listening to one of my favorite podcasters today, Tara Brach, and she said: “How do we recognize the secret beauty in all beings? Pay attention. The most profound expression of love is to pay full attention.”

So to start out, I want to simply be aware, and pay attention to my surroundings.

I may not be able to speak a lot of German, but I can be aware.

And I believe awareness leads to sharing.

I can share a smile with a stranger.

I can share a meal with a friend.

I can share my time at a charity.

I can share my talents and ideas at work.

All by simply being aware.

When I start to think about all the things I have to share (and want to share), it’s overwhelming!

I’ve already been setting the intention to share this week, and it’s giving me something great to focus on during this time of year when I usually just want to be alone.

I’m excited for this journey of sharing and what I’ll learn from it over the next year.
