#spiritsunday in Berlin

????????????????????????????????????

It ended up snowing a few inches overnight, so my day was spent slushing around town.

I had a big agenda for the day and ended up going all over the city.

My day started out at Alexanderplatz, where I had great views of the Dom and the needle.

I went to the DDR museum there, and it was worth it. It was such a cool museum–really interactive with a ton of memorabilia from the divided city.

AFter that, I went up north to the Prenzlauer Berg. This is the picturesque part of the city, with beautiful houses and cafes. There’s also a huge flea market on Sundays, complete with live music and set against the backdrop of a fragment of the wall.

Next up was the Topography of Terror museum and Checkpoint Charlie. The Topography of Terror museum was all about the Nazi government, the SS and the Gestapo. It was a lot of information to take in, but well worth it also.

By the end of the day, I walked back to Kreuzberg, grabbed a cup of tea at Ora, a bar that is in an old apothecary pharmacy, complete with bottles and dark wood and mirrors.

It was really beautiful to walk around the white city today and I kept imagining how much better it must be in the Spring. I need to start planning my next trip back!

???????????????????????????????????? The trees outside my hotel – it was like a winter wonderland today.
