Today was a normal Saturday: some yoga, some gormeh sabzi and refugees.
Since my stomach started feeling better today, I figured I’d take it easy and eat Persian cuisine for the first time.
My friend had me over to her place to try this delicious (and healthy) dish.
And, unlike the moon, it didn’t look any prettier in person.
Gormeh sabzi is a stew of a ton of herbs (hence the distinct color), meat, beans and potatoes. It’s flavored with dried limes from Iran, includes some bones (bone broth!), turmeric (anti-inflammatory!) and simmers for a day to incorporate all the flavors.
It really is the fountain of youth
The “side” was crispy saffron rice – this crunchy rice thing is a must.
After our meal, we headed down the street to a meet and greet with volunteer organizations and refugees.
I was a little skeptical, since I’d been trying desperately to volunteer somewhere since I moved here.
When we got there, I was able to talk to a bunch of volunteers and give them my information. I also chatted with a few of the refugees and there were people from all over: Eritrea, Afghanistan, Syria.
It was so nice to finally talk to people and hopefully have made some connections.
And a very middle eastern day in Frankfurt.
