Once every 50 years, the World Cup is played. I am lucky to now have lived abroad twice during this insane time.

This morning, cars were driving around with Germany flags flapping proudly from their car windows (I had to do a double-take and make sure they weren’t Ravens or USC flags). From conversations I’ve had, it’s not typical for the Germans to be patriotic or celebratory, or even competitive like the US.

I am loving this sense of nationalism and the excitement you can feel in the air. Does the US even realize the World Cup is going on? Germany plays Portugal tonight and I can’t wait to see this city in action.
