May is the cruelest month

With 3 public holidays in May, I don’t work a full week this month.

Wait. Let me rephrase that.

I’m not in the office 5 days in a row all month.

May is such a tease–you get so excited for all the long weekends that you don’t realize until you’re in the throes of the month what that really means.

May is an incredibly unbalanced month. The getaways, relaxing, and wine on the river become distant memories during the workweek.

Holiday season starts now–so the out of office replies are plentiful.

Good luck finishing (or starting) a project.

Then those returning from holidays want to be updated on all they missed.

The meetings are at an all-time high.

Meanwhile, other countries don’t always share the same holidays. The country brand manager requests are piling up in my inbox.

Please, take a number.

It has turned into a game of going in early and staying late just to keep your head above water until the next long weekend.

I get so frustrated when my life is out of balance. Personally, I’d rather work every day until 3 instead of having this feeling of go, go, go then rest, rest, rest.

So my diet’s off. My workouts are off. My sleep is off.

But another long weekend is right around the corner and I’m going to Budapest.

I’m trying to embrace it, and not worry about work until Tuesday.

After all, what would the Germans do?
