The next day was the Positivus Festival in Salacgriva. We hopped on the bus for the 2 hour ride over bumpy Latvian roads, through cattle fields and forests, with the Baltic beaches peeking through along the way.
We weren’t really sure what to expect of Positivus. We didn’t know it’s the biggest music and arts festival in the Baltic states, that it was named Best European Festival, or that most people go for 3 days and camp (we only got a one day ticket). But we were excited to see Mike’s band San Fermin, Years and Years and Ellie Goulding. Turns out Goulding backed out at the last minute due to illness, but we also discovered Hot Chip, who we loved dancing to.
This place was like a little fairy village in the woods.
You could go down to the beach, or lie in one of the many hammocks, or play a huge chess game…we did all the photo booths, mailed postcards for free, and danced in the fields all day and night.
Positivus was positive! It made me realize I need to be attending way more festivals while I’m still at an age where it’s socially acceptable to do so (wait, am I still?).
