Dancing on the Main
This weekend was the Museumsuferfest, my favorite festival in Frankfurt. It’s a few blocks from my house, and goes along both sides of the river.
For just 7 Euro, you get access to all the museums (so of course on Sunday, I freaked out because I bought the pass but hadn’t actually made it in any museums yet).
This festival is my favorite because:
- There are dance floors all up and down the river. You can basically hop from dance floor to dance floor.
- There is the widest variety to eat of any of the festivals. Sure, they still have the typical spiced nuts, popcorn, bratwurst, crepes, grilled lachs, falafel (ok I guess that’s already a lot) found at the other festivals, but there’s also Indian, Spanish, Portugese, Eritrean, lots of other African cuisine, Turkish…any country you can think of. Again, I freaked out and just went with falafel.
- It’s kind of like the Labor Day of Germany. For me, it marks an end to the summer festival season (not a great reason to be a favorite, but it’s a tradition, I guess).
- The vendors are artists, so there’s a ton of great handmade jewelry, paintings, cards, crafts.
- The crowd is eclectic. Sure, it gets unbearably packed, but the people watching is great.
And if a weekend long festival on my doorstep wasn’t enough, I also attended 3 parties.
My brain didn’t know how to handle all the social interaction.
Luckily, it was much needed.
I also managed to whip up a batch of toasted pecan caramel chocolate-covered pretzel ice cream in my spare time. Of all the flavors I’ve made so far, I really think this is the best.
After a weekend of friend time (Americans, Germans, Italians, Spanish, French, Danish) and dancing under the stars, I’m looking forward to a little break from work while I travel back to the US.
Bison, kale, protein bars – oh and friends and family – here I come!
