This weekend was all about great weather (sunny, highs near 80), and today was all about hiking.
Yasmin and I took the S bahn to Kronberg for a hike in the Taunus.
Devoted blog readers will remember Kronberg as home of the strawberry festival last June when dad visited.
Devoted blog readers will also remember that Yasmin and I went to Budapest together, where I made her walk the city the whole weekend and where she gave me the nickname “The Robot” (I’m still trying to figure out why she would ever agree to go on a hike with me).
When I met Yasmin at the train station this morning, she announced she had brought a blanket and a book. Which I immediately thought was odd, because “we’re going on a hike, right?”
Luckily after about 2 hours hiking (me dragging Yasmin, Yasmin thinking she was going to die) through the beautiful forest and mountains, we reached Großer Feldberg–the highest point in Frankfurt.
We got to the top and came upon a field full of kites. It was the most beautiful thing (aside from the screaming kids that usually accompany kite flying).
There was a burger truck and a place in the sun for the blanket. We had found heaven.
I really enjoyed the day: hanging out, solving life problems with a good friend, enjoying nature, saying hi to strangers and just getting away.
Yasmin was a trooper, even when we (I decided we would) forged ahead instead of taking the bus back. She only had a partial meltdown for ice cream the last hour or so of the trek.
We ended up walking about 20 kilometers (Yasmin recalls our personal best was 28km in Budapest).
I’ll report back tomorrow if she’s still friends with me.
Yasmin and I are now sole mates.
