Philhellenism

There’s so much going on here I don’t even know where to start.

I admit Greece was never on the top of my list of places to visit. I thought I preferred Italy or south of France for a Mediterranean getaway, but this trip has completely exceeded my expectations and turned me into a philhellenist (yes, I had to look that one up).

No wonder the Greek flag is blue and white. I’ve never seen blue so striking as the sea and the sky here.

And the bright white buildings make all the colors pop.

The windmills by day…and by night.

Last night we went to a closing party at a local restaurant. A lot of the bars and restaurants close for the winter, and they have huge parties on the last night.

The sunset was spectacular.

There was a band singing traditional Greek songs, playing drums, guitars, and a bouzouki.

The ouzo was flowing and the fresh seafood, hummus, pita were to die for.

The people here are super friendly, and I’d say even a little crazy. And the atmosphere in this town is so lively and happy – how could it not be?
