I’ve been enjoying my almond butter this week. Really. Enjoying. It. And I’ve been eating a lot of zucchini. A lot.

Amidst the stories of Ferguson, Rick Perry, Ebola, McDonald’s in Moscow, Islamic jihadists, there was a story here that I doubt made it to the US.

A 1,000 lb British bomb from WWII was found during construction work underneath the Autobahn near Frankfurt. When bomb teams couldn’t defuse the bomb, they had to detonate it. The Autobahn was closed, causing major traffic backups. Frankfurt airport was also closed, as the bomb was under its main flight path. People had to be evacuated from their homes nearby.

The section of the Autobahn is still closed while they patch up the hole.

It’s stories like these that make me happy I take the train. It also reminds me how the war was not that long ago, and there are still reminders of it all around.
