Train Travel

Here’s the message that greets me every morning when I arrive at the Eberstadt train station on on my way to work. The station is nothing to write home about (or blog about for that matter), but it’s a great way to start the morning and makes me think of all my friends and family.

Four days in and the novelty of the train commute has not worn off yet!

Other things going on:

– My air shipment arrived this morning. It was really funny interacting with the mover who dropped off my boxes and it’s amazing what you can accomplish with some hand gestures. When I signed the form, he told me “two-one” and put his hand to his ear. I think it means I have 21 days to call if something’s missing. But who knows?!

So now I have more summer clothes (even though it’s coat weather here), more hair products, my bike (the movers didn’t pack the helmet with it), my German cookbook, and most importantly–tupperware. German cooking sessions to start very soon! I already have some great recipes I want to try.

– My new work computer is a German computer. So that means everything is in German. It really slows down your day when you have to Google EVERY prompt, instruction, word that appears on your computer.

– I wired money into my German account and when the agent asked what I was going to use the money for, I answered, “Um I don’t know how to answer that question.”…I wonder if she would have accepted Crossfit gear and tea as an answer?

Today’s vocab words: Messer (knife) and Mandel (almond).

Today’s small victories: successfully asking for, and receiving, a knife and almonds. And telling the delivery guy I didn’t have a knife.
