Conkles

IMG_0907 After a month of friend visits, and care packages from my parents and Daralisa, I am finally stocked up with my US favorites!! Let the hoarding begin.

Back at the office this week…wah wah. Luckily, that means my story bank is being replenished.

I’ve started walking around the path outside of our office at lunchtime. Today, while walking with two co-workers (one from Germany and one from the UK), I was caught in a conversation about these nuts (I think that’s what they are) that were on the ground.

Brit to German: “Do you guys bake the conkles and put strings on them?”
German to Brit: “What’s a conkle?”
Brit: “You know, the conkles on the ground. When we were kids, we would bake them, put strings on them, then try to knock them together.”
German: “No. We bake them and eat them with wine and onion pie.”

Me, walking in between the two, thinking…kids in America play video games and eat Cheetos…and of course the Germans eat them with wine…and I don’t even want to know what onion pie is.
