My Spirit Sunday breakfast this morning was at Leila’s Shop, a small, charming, cozy cafe and baking store tucked away on a hidden side street (review here).
It was a rainy morning, but that made this warm little place even that much more inviting.
I eavesdropped on the conversations at the table next to me…a family planning a trip to Brighton.
I sipped my tea and thumbed through a book from the shelf about the Spitalfields nippers–London’s turn of the century poor children who lived in the area (info and pics from the book here).
I enjoyed every bite of the homemade strawberry jam and sourdough bread.
When I had commented to a colleague that all I wanted to do was sit in a cafe and read books, they told me I wouldn’t be doing that because there was so much more to do and see in London.
Funny, I think I got a pretty good feel for London just fine at Leila’s.
lovely! glad you got an English recharge.
